NW Autumn Art Work

The Cascade Mountains and Puget Sound are a beautiful and serene place to be in autumn. The mountains, streams, and the sound form a stunning landscape, which combined with the changing colors, and dramatic weather patterns create a mesmerizing place to hike and contemplate life. This portfolio shows a series of fine art photographs created in Washington. The locations extend along the Cascades from Mt Baker to Mt Rainier and from the eastside of the Cascades to Puget Sound. Fall colors come first to the high mountains and then gradually emerge along the slopes and in the valley. As Mother Nature changes her wardrobe from subtle greens to reds and yellows, we are able to see a completely different landscape. Follow the progression of colors as you visit this landscape and enjoy the tranquil settings. In these fine art photographs, I have tried to capture the wonder and magnificence of this spectacular landscape.

10 imagesFall colors in the autumn landscape create interesting patterns that are fascinating to study in the Pacific Northwest. Looking at how colors and textures interact can be mesmerizing. These patterns create a tranquil setting and encourage one to drift into their thoughts. These art pieces were designed by looking for how the mosaic of light, dark, and colors formed an interesting design. I blurred some images at the time of creation and others captured the design as it appeared in nature. The art ranges from close-ups to broad landscapes, each trying to set a unique mood, hopefully creating a different feeling for the viewer.

17 imagesAutumn is a special and perfect time to be outside in the Pacific Northwest. The air is crisp and temperatures are lower. Fall comes first to the subalpine habitats of Washington and then gradually works down the slopes to the edge of Puget Sound. At high altitudes the heather and huckleberry meadows are interspersed with mountain hemlocks forming a fascinating patchwork of color. Many flowers are rushing to produce their seeds before winter comes. Fog is common at this time of year and creates a peaceful feeling to the environment. The color, the design and the fog create interesting opportunities to capture the serene and tranquil sense of the landscapes in photographic art.

12 imagesFall is the time of dramatic colors and contrasts as Mother Nature shifts from the soft greens of summer to winter. The yellows and reds in the Pacific Northwest stand out against the broader landscape. This art portfolio captures designs from single leaves to broadly colorful settings. The colors form as the chlorophyll, which gives the green color, gradually begins to break down. Berries are also colorful at this time and create an interesting contrast with the surroundings.
