  • I spotted this Eurasian Widgen in the flock of American Widgens.  It blended in quite well and I only saw it when I looked carefuly through the several hundred birds in the group.

  • The flock was whistling loudly in the water beside the path when all of a sudden individuals began to jump up to cross the path toward the ball field where they began to graze intensely on the grass.

  • Something startled the feeding flock causing them to raise their heads and excitedly whistle.  I looked to see if an eagle or hawk was near by or whether it was a passing dog.  I could not tell and the flock went back to feeding in a few seconds indicating they did not feel it was serious.

  • This pair traveled close together as the other birds flowed back and forth around them.  It made me wonder if they were already paired for the coming year and would travel north together when spring arrived.
