  • Morning mist clung to Deer Lake and reflected the early morning light from the clouds. A light breeze across the lake made it quite cold as I stood and watched the morning wake up. I was bundled as if it was winter. A pacific wren sang its complex song behind me and the mosquitoes buzzed loadly around my face. A beuatiful wilderness morning.

  • The water was flat in the early morning and reflected the forests of the surrounding slopes. I found an opening in the forest to peer down onto the lake. A trout hit the surface near me. A shallow marsh was on the far side of the water. I would love to have a had kayak to explore the shore of this lake.

  • We waited to see if the setting sun would give some interesting color to Mt Shuksan when we noticed that fog was beginning to rise out of the valley. Gradually the trees were engulfed by the fog and it flowed across Picture Lake covering the mountain before the sunset.

  • Not a ripple was on Cranberry Lake as the sun began to rise. The fisherman waited patiently for a fish to bite in the warm morning light and adjacent to the fall colors. As I watched I could feel the tension in my body drift away with the morning fog and felt I could sit for hours enjoying the scene.

  • I liked how the colors and silhouete framed this scene. The clouds gave a warm feel to the overall landscape and reflected in the water. I waited until a pair of ducks crossed the picture to give a foreground interest.

  • The golden light reflecting off the water and light ripples were intriquing and created a peaceful atmosphere. I wanted to focus in on just the reflection in the water. The coot provided some additional interest and a place for the eye to rest as it purused the reflection.
